Day 4 (of 28 Total Days) Post:

Before you read the following poem based off the events of Memnoch the Devil, be sure to wish Anne Rice glad tidings and a very happy birthday on her Facebook fan page wall. She turns 73, but her life has never been more exciting, energetic than with filming for Christ the Lord:Out of Egypt film, plans for a Tale of the Body Thief film, a tv series based off the Sleeping Beauty Trilogy, and a new Lestat novel (which we are abundantly aware of, and nearly dying of extreme excitement while waiting for its release later this month).
I will always be indebted to her for giving me confidence to write and be willing to have artistic integrity, all thanks to her wonderfully intricate, ingenious stories, frankness with deep philosophical/political questions represented in her books, her audacious Facebook posts, etc. Also, her kindness will always floor me, and her generosity is awe-inspiring, especially in a cynical world where we wish to believe the worst of those that have gained notoriety. Notoriety is a shallow description for someone, who will always be remembered for changing the structure drastically of the way supernatural stories are written. She has taken the campy and pulp-fiction elements, and have allowed them to be imbued with depth, introspection, and intelligence.
All Anne Rice fans here essentially feel the same deep respect for her canon of works that have left their mark on all of us. We may or may not have had the chance to meet her in-person, but through her Facebook posts and other areas of communication, we have been impacted by her genuine sincerity, intellectual and artistic integrity, her irrepressible inquisivity, and empathy. That is the purpose of this month-long series on this blog- #28DaysofLestat- not just to celebrate the momentous return of our beloved Brat Prince, but really showcase the legacy of an extremely talented artist, and wonderful person!
So, Happy Birthday to Anne Rice!!!! This whole entire page, its writers, and various contributors (who have made this page larger and more ambitious than ever), and all 1,700 or so members of the Lestat Book Coven wishes you a wonderfully fun, joyous celebration of this very exciting day for you!!!
Vampire-Inspired Poetry-
**The following poem was published in summer of 2011 long ago when this blog existed as an amauter Blogspot page (which I still have not taken down, but should someday..). It is based off of the events of Memnoch the Devil.**
Heavenly Hallucination
Inspired by Anne Rice’s Memnoch the Devil
He sure was congenial-
That wily Devil
Who adorns himself with so many disguises
Yet, he tells me he can reveal the truths
Hidden beneath the metaphysical
Fabrics of heaven and Earth
Reluctantly, I complied-
But, the devil smiles sardonically
Maybe, it’s all just a lie
No, I’ll never achieve this again
Satan, I am complicit
If only to find validation
Of the deepest yearnings of my
Immortal soul
Upon entering heaven,
I was thrown to the ground
By the magnificent force
Of the rapturous singing
That only Angels create
In the nuances of the tune,
I heard my desire
Rendered into a beautiful symphony
About my intrinsic need for redemption and purpose
I pored over books in heaven which were
Endless, like the scope of heaven
Upon earth, I could never recount
The information
But, I can recall the
Profound elation that
Feels now like a vague sense
Of its true gravity
Suddenly Satan weaved his woeful tale
He had his questions about
The elusive methods of God
It was the reason for his downfall
The grandeur of heaven was too unreal
There had to be some ounce of imperfection
Underpinning the entire grand design
Of this heavenly oasis
Now, he was educating forsaken
Earthly souls and
Educating them to be penitent
In order to escape the infernal
Landscape of hell
He didn’t know if he was still allied with God
For God still appeared divinely angered
At the devil’s inquisitiveness
I’ve seen horrific imagery
Terrifying flashes of perdition
Edifying images of heaven
Yet, I could place my confidence in either of these places
I could only disbelieve
Because all that I’ve seen
Is far above the lowly
Cognitive powers of someone like me
In the end when I awoke,
I felt shaken to the core
Now, I could only fall deep
Into some catatonic state
Till I could rediscover my bearings
Within this Godless prison
***Please send photos, artwork, letters, diary entries, an epistolary novel, something that you feel artfully engraves the impact Anne Rice’s stories have had on your life to narniafanatic@gmail.com with the subject line of “28 Days of Lestat! With your express permission being granted to share these things (one poem or song per day during the course of October, 2014, up till the 28th of October), I hope to post something each day- a small fragment of one person’s completely unique approach to the series, which will hopefully come together, impressively, on the 28th of October, to virtually reconstruct the different views and memories people attach to this series, the character of Lestat, and many of the other vampires (or immortal species) Anne has created, in an uncannily realistic way, which makes us believe that these characters are very real, and existing amongst us.
Also, be sure to share anything Vampire Chronicles-related on the Lestat Book Coven Facebook Group Page, any comment sections on all 28 individual #28daysofLestat posts here on this blog, or on Twitter,Instagram, Tumblr, and beyond!!
