Vampire Lestat Book Coven Newsletter 7/30/14:New Vampire Lestat First Edition Copy Contest Details/Vampire Lestat Live Chat #4 Details

Keep reading this post, all the way to the end to find out ways of winning your own SIGNED, FIRST-EDITION HARDCOVER of The Vampire Lestat!!

First things first, the Lestat Book Coven had a highly stimulating conversation with online vampire film reviewer/guru/expert-Maven of the Eventide of ChezApocalypse. Maven of the Eventide, for many fans of Anne Rice’s works, has done two impeccably researched, insightful reviews of the Interview with the Vampire film and the rather dismal Queen of the Damned film.

For a whole 26 minutes or so, we chatted about the nuances of Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles, and why there continues to be appeal for the iconic character of the Vampire Lestat.

You can check out the whole interview below, in video form. Unfortunately, the camera frames never automatically switched between both her and my perspective, so the frame is always focused entirely on “Maven of the Eventide!” But, enjoy it nonetheless, even with these  tragic technical glitches. Maven of the Eventide’s comments and enthusiastic, witty way of speaking comes across very well on this particuliar interview.
Thanks again to Maven of the Eventide for taking the time to do an interview with your coven master, and we hope she can someday partake on one of our Sunday live chats!!

At Thrillerfest this past month, I had the wonderful, very much unforgettable opportunity to interview Anne Rice (and, I do not need to elaborate on her writing credentials; you know who she is). Thanks to both Anne Rice and her wonderful assistant Becket for making this interview a very enjoyable, stress-free experience.

For me, this was a remarkable opportunity, since in many humble respects, I am just a passionate book blogger, who has been mainly writing rather in-depth posts about Anne Rice’s books for nearly four years and counting. It is not the group itself that allowed this opportunity to happen. Incidentally, this interview came mostly about because of the unwavering support of all 900 (approaching 1000) or so remarkable members of the Lestat Book Coven over at the Facebook Group Page.

I posted the two parts below, and I know there is some continuity issues between the end of Part 1 into Part 2. Due to some inevitable technical glitches, the transition between both parts seems kind of abrupt.  Enjoy it, nonetheless, and thanks again to everyone that enthusiastically has joined in our coven discussions, for all the various individuals that produced such thoughtful questions, finally to Anne Rice and her assistant Becket for making this entire thing possible!!

Discussion Post:

These discussion posts will be posted on my blog, opening up the discussion to those people that have been unable to partake in our live chats, or maybe have a host of reasons for preferring text-based posts over video posts.  I’ll always be posting Facebook post updates about each post either on Anne Rice’s Facebook Fan page, the  Lestat Book Coven Facebook Group page, and the mailing list for the Lestat Book Coven (embedded hyperlink will take you to page to sign up for this)Our next live chat will be August 3, 2014 at 2pm. Eastern via Google Hangout on Air, and we will be discussing the next 80 pages of The Vampire Lestat.”

More details about this live chat, and contest details can be found by clicking “More” below, if you’re reading this from the main home page for my blog.

Reading Assignment Details:
Our minds are now ensconced in Lestat’s very formative vampire psyche, and the next eighty or so pages of our assigned reading will be dealing with the psychological shock and reaction to him becoming a vampire. So, our assigned reading is Chapter 9 of Part II to Part III- Children of Darkness, in “The Vampire Lestat.”
Our live chat, revolving around this book, will be this coming Sunday, August 3rd at 2pm. Eastern, Click the hyperlinked text to RSVP for this Google on Air Hangout Event

Discussion Questions:

1. Compare and contrast his first thoughts and actions as a vampire versus how Louis reacted in Interview with the Vampire?

2. Describe the theater sequence, and describe your first reaction it? How does the audience react, in comparison to the audience of the Theatres des Vampires production in Interview with the Vampire? In what ways does this sequence presage that and later performances? What is with the recurrent motif of a theatrical being used to convey something about the vampire lifestyle, and the ways the more mundane world reacts to things that are out-of-the-normal, or defying conventional boundaries? Is there any commentary on the illusory nature of art, and what type of art pushes the limits too far, and whether all art and aesthetic pursuits are ethical?

3. In my interview with Anne Rice at Thrillerfest a few weeks back, she mentioned that the Vampire Lestat would be perfect, as an opera? Do you discern any operatic elements of this book, as told from a more dramatic, almost tragically comic personality, like the Vampire Lestat?

4. What is the legacy of a vampire, as insinuated by Magnus, and do you think that this “legacy” of sorts is a continuing theme in the Vampire Chronicles and Lestat’s journey as a character? Do you think this theme of the legacy, as examined in the beginning of Blood Canticle and really first articulated by Magnus, is something that will continue to be explored in the pages of Prince Lestat?

Contest Details:

WIN A SIGNED, FIRST EDITION HARDCOVER OF THE VAMPIRE LESTAT!!

** VERY IMPORTANT CONTEST RULES:**Due to high prices for international mailing, this contest is only open to those, living either in the US or Canada. I apologize in advance for neglecting to post these rules, but they are very important, for my budget is tight. And while I would love to be able to open up the contest to all Lestat fans, living somewhere around the world, the exorbitant costs with mailing things kinda prevents that from ideally happening.

Also, the contest associated with the Vampire Lestat musical is now completely eradicated; this is the newest contest for winning a SIGNED, FIRST EDITION Hardcover copy of Anne Rice’s The Vampire Lestat.  Unlike past contests, due to my error in judgement, the contest’s winner is selected completely at random, and having the most entries on the Rafflecopter App. does not guarantee winning the contest, but only increases the likelihood of winning!!

The contest is being run to help promote my new editorial and publicity services, open to any interested Self-published writers. I don’t feel like rehashing all the details here about the reason for its development, and the descriptions of the services provided for this service, so I advise you click the hyperlinked text- A Bibliophile’s Workshopto read more about this very exciting new service for self-published writers

** To access the Rafflecopter contest to enter this contest, Click one of Jo Vee’s two beautiful artworks, out of many more as displayed on the recently published art galley on my blog, to access the Rafflecopter App for this contest.**

    1. Yes, the sound in the first portion of the Anne Rice interview wasn’t great, and I was very forward about that.. I hope to improve my camera technology very soon, because the Canon Elf digital camera is far too low-tech at this point in the game.

    1. Is this about the Anne Rice interview, and thank you for leaving a honest comment? lol No, I don’t mind if, you find my interviewing style annoying (it’s all subjective), thanks for trying to watch, nonetheless!! Still learning, as an interviewer.

Once the sound corrected I loved it. Personally it seemed like a fan who was interested and knowledgeable about her work was interviewing her. Asking questions I was interested in hearing as well. Due to the sound difficulty in the start (slight buzz type noise) I missed where she was talking about the Mayfair witches and Lestat. Sounded like she was not interested in exploring those combined but after Blackwood Farm I find that hard to believe. Ok maybe not all the Mayfairs but I am deeply interested in more of Mona Mayfair, Quinn and Lestat together. I am so excited about the upcoming book and harbored secret desire to see my love struck couple gallivanting about with Prince Lestat. Bravo to you for having the courage to interview Anne Rice, it’s not easy to speak to someone who you have such great admiration for without being overcome by the magnitude of the situation.
